Manila: Random Afternoon at Intramuros

One sunny afternoon, we finally got off our lazy asses and pushed through with our Intramuros tour.

While half a day is not enough if you want to walk around the famous walled city and stop by each and every one of the tourist spots, you can cheat by taking a Kalesa ride with a very knowledgeable tour guide trained by the Department of Tourism. These official tour guides can be identified by their yellow and green long-sleeve polo usually lined up at the gates of Fort Santiago. Not only will they point out all of the relevant places to visit, they also dish out a short history lesson. Taking a guided Kalesa ride will set you back PhP 350 for a maximum of 3 adults or Php 50 per Student. (Rates as of February 2012)

Tips:
– Start exploring Fort Santiago before contracting a guided tour.
– You may opt to go around Intramuros by contracting a pedicab, but they are not trained by the Department of Tourism so I’m not sure how well they fare in the storytelling during the tour. (I’m not sure about the price.)
– Half a day is not enough if you want to visit each and every one of the sites.
