Shanghai: Lillian Cake Shop Egg Tart

Looking for a place to buy dessert in Shanghai? A friend recommended Lillian Cake Shop’s Egg Tart. He claims that Lillian Cake (also known as Lillian Bakery or 莉莲蛋挞) serves the best egg tart in Shanghai. With a claim like that, we made it our mission to try out the “best dessert in Shanghai” on our first day in the city.

The flaky crust filled with sweet, soft custard is worthy of its reputation. It is also reasonably priced at RMB 4.5 per piece. We liked it so much that we bought 2 boxes back to the hotel for our midnight snack. We also bought 2 more boxes before leaving for Xi’an.

Still not convinced? Their shop at the basement of New World Mall near the People’s Park has a sign that says: “Might be the best tasting egg tart in Shanghai”.
